GUD Malta welcomes Tabi Joda to its global Board of Directors

GUD Malta has appointed Tabi Joda to its global Board of Directors, where he will lead on advocacy strategy for the Great Green Wall support efforts.

"I am honoured to extend a warm welcome to Tabi Joda as the newest member of the GUD Malta board," said Justine Gaspar, President and Chair of the Board. "Tabi doesn't just bring a lifetime of experience; he is also highly respected by communities across the Sahel region and beyond."

Janine Campling, Vice-Chair of the board, added, "I am excited to be working alongside Tabi, who has been a passionate ambassador for the Great Green Wall initiative, representing both the UN and the African Union. It is Tabi's inspiring nature that causes communities to gravitate towards his guidance."

Tabi Joda is an award-winning indigenous agroforester, author, and eco-entrepreneur. His primary focus is on the forest restoration of local communities, enhancing ecosystem resilience, and developing value chains.

He currently holds the position of CEO at GreenAid and spearheads the "One Billion Trees for Africa" initiative. Under his leadership, this initiative has seen the planting of over three million trees from 2010 to 2020, restored over 80 hectares of land, and created 77 forest landscape restoration (FLR) jobs. His efforts have garnered several accolades, including the 2017 Africa Prize for Climate Information Services Innovation awarded by ACPC-UNECA, and the 2017 Environmental Award presented by President Yoweri Museveni. In 2018, he served as the Youth Ambassador for the African Forest Landscape Restoration Initiative (AFR100) and played a significant role in the Africa Great Green Wall Initiative.

GUD Malta is a non-profit organisation focused on sustainable urban development and innovation for the common good. Partnered with the UN Habitat World Urban Campaign, GUD Malta leverages an expanding global network of sustainability leaders and subject-matter experts to deliver ethical and impactful initiatives. Central to its mission is the creation of a high-conviction carbon credit vehicle for nature-based solutions, designed to accelerate land and biodiversity restoration, whilst combating desertification and resource scarcity.
