The Mango Tree plays a vital role in reforestation, food security, and community resilience.
Originally from India and Southeast Asia, it thrives in arid climates, growing up to 20 metres with a dense canopy that offers shade and prevents soil erosion.
Its fruit, valued for its sweet, tangy flavour, supports nutrition (SDG 2: Zero Hunger) and local economies (SDG 8: Decent Work and Economic Growth). The tree also enhances soil fertility and water retention (SDG 15: Life on Land), while its medicinal properties align with health goals (SDG 3: Good Health and Well-Being). By fostering sustainability and supporting livelihoods, the mango tree contributes directly to the success of the Great Green Wall and the achievement of several UN Sustainable Development Goals.
